GPH Grizzlies Football And Cheer

History

The Grizzlies began play in 2008 after it was determined that every community deserves a program to call their own. The Grizzlies were built around a few important principles. To be a program with integrity that would play in the most competitive league in the area, and to give kids the advantage of high level competition in preparation for high school. The Grizzlies also wanted to teach life skills about never giving up and working hard to earn what you deserve. The program was developed with no star system, prevalent in other programs rather, kids earning their playing time based on their work ethic in practice and games.

The Grizzlies were incorporated in January of 2008 and began play in the fall of that year with two teams in Pop Warner. We had a total of 38 football players with no cheer program at this time. The Pee Wee team won their division and ended up with a 3-5 overall record playing against competitive programs. While It was a rough start, the experience set the tone for the 2009 season.

In 2009, The Grizzlies added another team, along with a cheer program. Our enrollment increased to 75 football players and 30 cheerleaders. Our second tier Pee Wee team went undefeated and went deep into the playoffs, while the three other teams were also very competitive. Our younger teams saw improvement, but the organization looked to make changes to improve competitiveness.

In 2010 we left Pop Warner to join TCYFL, were we have happily been since. The lightweight team went 8-1 that season and won their first Super Bowl. Three lower level teams also did well to set the tone for 2011. In 2011 we experienced great success at all levels, and our cheer teams did very well in state competitions. In 2012 we continued to grow our success with another great season for the Grizzlies. The Bantam team won the Superbowl and went undefeated (9 - 0), allowing only 12 points all season including the Superbowl.

2013 brought many changes that have positioned the Grizzlies for future growth and success. We are now bringing together the three communities that feed into the Hampshire High School program. We now hold practices in Gilberts and Pingree Grove, with games at Gilberts Elementary School. We look forward to our continued growth and success in the future.

Our thanks go out to the parents and players that have made the program what it is today. Also to all board members, committee members, sponsors and volunteers past and present, for their tireless efforts and support. Thanks as well to The Eagles Club, Gilberts Elementary School, Cambridge Lakes Charter School, The Village of Gilberts, The Village of Pingree Grove and TCYFL for their continued support.
